Athens Alpine Ski Club

The Athens Alpine Ski Club (AASC) is an emerging member of the PERAMA International federation. The Club operates from its administrative base in Athens. Competitive activity takes place in the mountain ranges of central and northern Greece.
Formation
The Club traces its origins to a single household. A Greek member of the early federation married a Swiss professional skier. The arrangement required both sun and ice. Athens provided one. The mountains, eventually, provided the other.
What followed was a small group of Athenians making regular trips north to the slopes of the Pindus range and Mount Parnassus. The founding members soon discovered that conditions in the Greek mountains bear little resemblance to the Alpine resorts of central Europe. The committee has noted that the terrain requires what early members referred to as "the heart of a Spartan."
The Club survived regardless.
Operations
The AASC operates between November and April. Members travel from Athens to the mountains as the schedule requires. Training in the city is limited to fitness and conditioning at sea level. The committee considers this a matter of discipline.
Membership
Membership is open to residents of the Attica region and, under specific provisions, to international applicants. The current roster reflects this. Applications are reviewed on a seasonal basis.
The Crest
The AASC crest was finalised during the Club's inaugural season and has not been revised. It appears on all official AASC merchandise issued through the PERAMA International Secretariat, including garments produced on GOTS certified organic cotton.
Standing
The Athens Alpine Ski Club holds emerging member status within PERAMA International. The Club is the federation member located closest to the headquarters in Epirus.
The committee has stated that this carries no administrative advantage.
