Clarification Regarding the Name PERAMA and Related Enquiries

The Federation wishes to address a matter of ongoing administrative inconvenience regarding its name.

THE ENQUIRIES

Since its establishment in Epirus in 1950, PERAMA International has received correspondence intended for other entities sharing, or approximating, the name Perama. The volume of misdirected enquiries has increased in recent years, coinciding with what the Secretary's office attributes to "the internet."

The Federation confirms the following:

PERAMA International is not the village of Perama, Ioannina, Epirus, Greece. The Federation acknowledges that its administrative origins are in the Epirus region and understands the confusion. However, the Federation does not operate municipal services, maintain public roads, or oversee waste collection. A letter received in March requesting the repair of a pothole on the road to Ligkiades has been forwarded to the appropriate authority. The Federation does not know which authority that is.

PERAMA International is not the Perama Cave. The Federation has received seventeen enquiries this calendar year regarding visiting hours, ticket prices, and whether the cave is "suitable for children." The Perama Cave is a geological formation near Ioannina featuring stalactites and stalagmites and is open to the public. The Federation is not open to the public. The cave is approximately 1,500 metres in length. The Federation's headquarters corridor is not.

PERAMA International is not a ferry service. The Federation has received correspondence from individuals seeking timetable information for ferry routes departing from Perama, Attica, a coastal area near Piraeus. The Federation does not operate ferries. It does not have boats. The Bermuda Triangle Sailing League has boats, but they are not ferries and their arrival times are, by the BTSL's own admission, "unpredictable."

PERAMA International is not a travel agency. The Federation has, on two occasions, received booking requests for accommodation in the Perama area. The Secretary's office responded to the first with a polite clarification. The second was from the same individual.

PERAMA International does not offer guided tours. A review was posted to a platform the Federation does not monitor, describing the experience as "not what we expected." The Federation agrees.

THE NAME

The name PERAMA derives from the Greek, carrying associations of crossing and passage. The Federation considers this appropriate for an organisation that governs sporting clubs across six continents. It did not anticipate that it would also be appropriate for a cave, a ferry terminal, and a village road in need of repair.

The Federation has no plans to change its name. It respectfully requests that enquiries regarding caves, ferries, potholes, and accommodation be directed elsewhere.

A NOTE ON LUGGAGE

The Federation has received, on three separate occasions, luggage that does not belong to it. Two suitcases and a backpack were delivered to Federation headquarters by a courier who stated they were "for Perama." The luggage has been stored. The backpack contained a guidebook to the Zagori region and a bag of pistachios. The pistachios were not consumed.
