The Okinawa Curling Association has announced the relocation of its competitive programme to a new permanent facility.
The venue, formerly operated as a cold storage unit by Naha Seafood Processing Ltd, was acquired by the Association following the company's closure earlier this year. The committee has confirmed that the space meets the Federation's minimum dimensional requirements for an indoor curling rink. Temperature compliance has been described as "achievable with adjustments."
The playing surface is maintained at approximately minus 4 degrees Celsius. The surrounding area, including the spectator zone, is not refrigerated. Match-day temperatures in the spectator zone have reached 29 degrees. The Association provides handheld fans.
Residual odour from the facility's previous use has been described by the committee as "no longer significant." Visiting teams have not universally agreed with this assessment. The Federation has requested that the matter be addressed before the start of the inter-federation season.
The Association's previous facility was an open-air rink maintained through a partnership with a local ice supplier. The partnership ended when the supplier redirected operations to the shaved ice beverage industry. The committee described this as "commercially understandable but competitively inconvenient."
The OCA has confirmed that the new facility will be operational for the coming season. Spectators are advised to dress for both extremes.
